If your question isn’t listed here, please give us a call at 508-730-1112 to speak with one of our client service representatives.

“I found an injured wild animal. Can I bring it to Mass-RI Veterinary ER?”

No, it is illegal for anyone besides a state-appointed rehabilitator to provide care for wild animals. If you’ve found an animal that is injured or sick, please visit the app Animal Help Now to find a wildlife rehabilitator near you.

“Which species of animals does Mass-RI Veterinary ER treat?”

Our hospital treats cats and dogs of all breeds, sizes, and ages.

“Do I need to schedule an appointment before I come in?”

Our hospital sees walk-in patients – no appointments are needed! However, we do recommend that you call us when you’re on your way in so we can prepare for your arrival.

“How long of a wait time should I expect?”

As a walk-in ER and urgent care hospital, we see patients based on triage. This means that patients are seen by order of urgency, rather than first-come first-served. Due to the unpredictable nature of emergencies, we can provide estimates for wait times, but these may change at any moment depending on what comes through the door. We always recommend calling ahead when possible so we can prepare for your arrival and hopefully keep your wait time to a minimum.

“What happens if my pet needs to be hospitalized overnight?”

For pets that need overnight or in-hospital care, our skilled nursing team is here to help. We’ll monitor your pet 24/7 and make sure they’re receiving the care they need, and we will update you regularly with how they’re doing and what the next steps are.

“I’m not sure if my pet needs to be seen urgently or not – how do I know if I should come in?”

If your pet is not in obvious distress and your primary care veterinarian is open, we always recommend contacting them first as they will know your pet’s medical history. If your primary care veterinarian is not available and you’re concerned about your pet, please give us a call at (508) 730-1112.

“My pet ate something toxic (e.g., medications, chocolate). What should I do?”

The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center is available 24/7 for you to call in case of emergency. Poison Control experts can advise you on if the substance your dog ingested was harmful and if an emergency visit is needed. A consultation fee of $85 may apply.

“My pet needs a primary care service (vaccines, nail trim, dental cleaning, etc.). Can this be done at Mass-RI Veterinary ER?”

No, Mass-RI Veterinary ER provides emergency and urgent care services only. For regular wellness services such as vaccinations or check-ups, please contact your pet’s primary care veterinarian.

“Do you offer payment plans or financial assistance?”

We accept CareCredit, the pet, health and wellness credit card with flexible, budget-friendly financing options that allow you to pay over time for a range of treatments and services including procedures, medication and more.
*Subject to credit approval.
